Regional workshop on Asia-Pacific trade integration hosted

A regional workshop titled “Enhancing Asia-Pacific Trade Integration” concluded in Ulaanbaatar, bringing together over 60 participants from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss strategies for enhancing regional economic cooperation. The two-day event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Mongolia, and the EU External Trade Support Project for Mongolia.

More than 30 international officials and scholars from 10 countries, including member states of the Asia-Pacific Trade Agreement (APTA), took part in the training. Participants and speakers hailed from academic and research institutions in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. Mongolia was represented by 35 participants, including officials from relevant ministries and government agencies, university researchers, and members of the private sector.

The training aimed to evaluate the current state and progress of regional trade integration, particularly focusing on the implementation of free trade agreements and the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement. Key issues such as e-commerce, trade in services, trade facilitation, and investment regulations were also examined.

Participants explored methodologies for comparative tariff analysis across countries, a crucial tool for guiding future cooperation and policy decisions in regional trade. Organizers emphasized that the training serves as a platform to deepen collaboration between APTA member states and other regional partners, while also enhancing Mongolia’s role in advancing trade integration in the Asia-Pacific region.
