The National Agency Meteorology and Environmental Monitoring released a review on September 23 covering weather conditions across Mongolia over the past 10 days. During the period, average temperatures ranged from one to 10 degrees Celsius in the mountainous areas of the Mongol Altai, Khangai, Khentii and Khuvsgul regions, as well as the Kharkhiraa and Turgen Mountains, Khan Khukhii, Tarvagatai and Bulnai ranges and the valleys of major rivers. Temperatures reached 15 to 20 degrees Celsius in the Great Lakes Depression, steppe areas and parts of the Gobi.

These figures were 1.1 to five degrees Celsius warmer than the long-term average. Precipitation was below the long-term average in around 90 percent of the country, while some areas of the central region and several soums in Arkhangai, Dornod, Khentii, Selenge, Uvs, and Zavkhan provinces received above-average precipitation.

Wet snow was also reported across much of Tariat and Tsakhir soums of Arkhangai Province on September 18. Meanwhile, harvesting of potatoes, vegetables and grain is currently underway across agricultural areas, while livestock herders are also engaged in milking and preparing hay and fodder.

Weather conditions are expected to remain generally calm over the next few days. However, starting September 28, snow is forecast across much of the country, accompanied by snowstorms and dust storms. These conditions are expected to continue for four to five days. Authorities have particularly warned of a sharp drop in temperatures in agricultural regions, which could affect ongoing harvesting activities.
