52 km of new roads to be built this year

Authorities have announced that 33.8 kilometers of roads will be repaired and upgraded at five locations across the capital city this year, while 52 kilometers of new roads will be constructed at 13 locations, as part of a broader effort to improve the city’s transportation infrastructure in Ulaanbaatar.

The plan was introduced to the public on March 11. In addition to road construction, the city will build two pedestrian overpass bridges and install 31 kilometers of street lighting to enhance safety and accessibility for both drivers and pedestrians. Officials stated that construction and renovation works on road infrastructure are scheduled to begin on April 1.

City authorities also highlighted recent progress in road upgrades. Between September 2024 and the same period in 2025, 233 kilometers of roads were renovated at 86 locations throughout the capital.

Among the new projects planned for this year is a 2.2-kilometer four-lane road that will connect Arkhivchdiin Street, the Morin Roundabout, and Naadamchid Square with Nukht Road. A 0.5-kilometer two-lane road will also link the Solongo-1 Residential Complex with a nearby flood protection canal. Another major project involves the construction of a 12.5-kilometer road connecting the Emeelt Eco-Industrial Park to Shuvuun Fabrique.

Additional roads will be built in several other areas of the capital city. These include a 0.3-kilometer vertical road extending from the southern side of Naadamchid Road to Artsat Valley, a 0.6-kilometer road beneath the Gurvaljin bridge, and a 0.4-kilometer road connecting Naadamchid Road to School No. 312. Plans also include a 0.5-kilometer road that will link Manlaibaatar Damdinsuren Street with Narnii Road.

Meanwhile, infrastructure development will also take place in residential districts. A 2.4-kilometer road project will be implemented in the 19th khoroo of Sukhbaatar District, while a 0.4-kilometer road will be constructed leading to School No. 124 and Kindergarten No. 158. Another 0.8-kilometer road will extend from Tenger Rashaan Street toward the southeastern side of Human International School and continue to Ar Zaisan Street. Improvements are also planned for the Nairamdal Camp Road, where 12 kilometers of road and lighting infrastructure will be developed.

In addition to these new developments, road repair and renovation work will be carried out at five major locations, including Peace Avenue, Monel Road, and the Dambadarjaa Intersection. Officials say the projects are intended to ease traffic congestion and improve the capital’s rapidly expanding transportation network.
