September 11 was a challenging day for emergency services across Mongolia, as multiple wildfires and urban fires were reported in different provinces and districts. Thanks to the swift response of firefighters, local authorities, and residents, the blazes were eventually brought under control, though thousands of hectares of land and several properties were affected.
One of the largest fire cases occurred in Khalkhgol soum of Dornod Province, where a wildfire broke out in the Sangiin Dalai area. The emergency call was received at 3:50 p.m. Personnel from the Emergency Management Agency’s Unit No. 62 in Khalkhgol soum, search-and-rescue units, specialists from Khalkhgol soum, staff from “PetroChina Daqing Tamsag” LLC, rangers from the Numrug Strictly Protected Area, and local residents all joined efforts to contain the blaze. By midnight, the fire had been encircled, and by 6:20 a.m. the following morning it was fully extinguished. Preliminary estimates suggest the fire scorched around 2,000 hectares of land.
Another wildfire was reported the same day at 5:08 p.m. in Erdenetsagaan soum of Sukhbaatar Province. Unit No. 47 of the Emergency Management Agency, together with local residents, managed to encircle the fire by 8:00 p.m. and completely extinguished it by 7:10 a.m. the next morning. Approximately 125 hectares of land were affected.
In Orkhon Province’s Bayan-Undur soum, an emergency call came in at 9:59 a.m. about a fire in Bayantsagaad bag. Firefighters from Unit No. 56 discovered that a 12x30 meter production building and a 4x12 meter warehouse containing raw materials were ablaze. The fire was successfully extinguished before spreading further.
In Dalanzadgad soum of Umnugovi Province, Unit No. 21 responded at 12:26 p.m. to reports of burning grass in the seventh bag. Roughly one hectare of pasture was affected before the fire was put out.
In Sukhbaatar soum of Selenge Province, a fire was reported at 1:08 p.m. in Ganzam bag, where a vegetable storage cellar caught fire. Firefighters from Unit No. 36 extinguished flames that had spread to the entrance of the 10x20 meter facility.
Later that afternoon, at 2:46 p.m., a call from Khan-Uul District, Ulaanbaatar City, reported a house fire. Unit No. 30 found an 8x8 meter home belonging to a resident, identified as B., engulfed in flames. The blaze destroyed the house and household belongings before being put out.
At 9:47 p.m., a house fire was also reported in Bayanzurkh District, Ulaanbaatar. Firefighters from Unit No. 63 discovered that the blaze had damaged the roof of the home, burned down 10 meters of fencing, and destroyed various stored goods. The fire was successfully contained and extinguished.
While no casualties have been reported in connection with these accidents, the damage to land, property, and livelihoods serves as a sobering reminder of the risks posed by both wildfires and household fires. According to emergency officials, the combination of dry weather, strong winds, and human negligence continues to fuel fire hazards across the country. The National Emergency Management Agency has once again urged citizens to remain vigilant, avoid careless use of fire in open fields, and ensure electrical systems and heating appliances are safely maintained. Authorities stressed that prevention and community cooperation remain the most effective safeguards against future disasters, emphasizing that every citizen plays a role in protecting both the environment and their communities.
