Mongolia’s basketball scene is surging internationally, with the women’s 3x3 team Ulaanbaatar Amazons qualifying for the FIBA Women’s Series 2025 Shanghai Finals after finishing in the top six out of 60 teams worldwide. Their strong run, which included two third-places and one fourth-place finish, earned them 320 points and the right to represent Asia in the finals this September alongside countries like Canada, Spain, and the Netherlands.
Meanwhile, in the Asian University Basketball League (AUBL), Etugen Irvesuud, coached by State Honored Coach O.Bayartsogt, made their debut and secured a fourth-place finish—despite falling to Japan, they held their own among top regional teams. Taiwan’s Chengchi University’s athletes, who played in the same group as Mongolia, went on to upset China’s Tsinghua University for the title.
On the professional front, several standout players have returned to Mongolia or made major moves. Ch.Margad (USA) and Ts.Sanchir (Vietnam) are now training with Bishrelt Metal, while E.Tserenbaatar joined Khasiin Khuleguud. The team also signed American athlete Efe Odigie, further strengthening their roster.
Star guard A.Anand finalized a high-profile transfer from Selenge Bodons to Khasiin Khuleguud, signing a one-year deal worth 500 million MNT plus 20 percent of merchandise revenue—one of the largest packages in Mongolian basketball history. With rising international success and major investments in players, Mongolia is cementing its place as a serious force in regional and global basketball.
