Specialists trained for family and child courts

An initial training programme for specialists who will work at specialized family and child courts began on October 7 ahead of the implementation of the Law on Family Court Proceedings, which will take effect on November 1. The two-week training aims to establish a new system in which specialists professionally assess children’s and families’ circumstances and support judges in making informed decisions.

The specialists will conduct comprehensive assessments of family situations, hold individual or joint interviews with children when necessary, analyse their circumstances and prepare reports. In criminal cases involving adolescents, they will also examine the child’s background and the factors and circumstances that may have contributed to the offence, providing courts with relevant professional information and assessments.

The new approach will enable courts to consider not only legal aspects when resolving family and child-related cases, but also children’s actual needs, rights and best interests. It is expected to strengthen specialization in family and child proceedings and improve the protection of children’s rights and interests within the judicial system. Supreme Court Chief Justice Ts.Tsogt said the initiative would not only help prepare human resources for the new courts but also lay the foundation for developing a professional culture focused on protecting children’s and families’ rights. “Our goal is to help put the lives of families and adolescents who turn to these courts on a better course,” he said.
