The election was held on June 26, in New York. Mongolia nominated D.Amarsanaa to compete for one of the 12 available seats on the committee. D.Amarsanaa was successfully elected with 136 votes.

The CEDAW Committee consists of 23 independent experts serving three-year terms. Members are responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and providing recommendations to strengthen global standards on gender equality, legal protection, and the prevention of violence and exploitation against women.

Mongolia’s participation in the committee is expected to contribute to the advancement of international women’s rights, improvement of legal frameworks, and broader efforts to promote gender equality and social development.

Mongolia acceded to the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women in 1979. With this election, D.Amarsanaa became the second Mongolian representative to serve on the CEDAW Committee, following Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary L.Ider.
