Throughout human history, landscapes have been more than physical settings. Mountains, rivers, forests, and open plains have often been regarded as repositories of memory, spirituality, and cultural identity. Across many cultures, people have attributed unseen forces and meanings to the natural world, viewing certain places not merely as locations but as living entities connected to human experience. It is within this broader understanding of nature and place that Artist B.Bat-Erdene, known professionally as BAAG, presents his latest solo exhibition, “SAVDAG–IIII.II”.
Running from June 12 to 28, the exhibition showcases a new series of works that delve into the complex relationship between humanity and the environments it inhabits. Drawing upon ideas of memory, existence, and the unseen dimensions of the natural world, B.Bat-Erdene invites audiences to reconsider how people perceive and connect with the spaces around them.
The exhibition marks a continuation of the artist’s ongoing exploration of materiality and visual expression. Through the use of diverse techniques and creative processes, he experiments with the possibilities of form, texture, and composition, producing works that blur the boundaries between abstraction and representation. Rather than offering literal depictions, the artworks evoke impressions, sensations, and fragments of experience that encourage deeper contemplation.
Central to the exhibition is the concept of “savdag”, a term deeply rooted in Mongolian cultural traditions and beliefs about the spiritual essence of landscapes. While the works do not seek to illustrate these ideas directly, they are permeated by reflections on sacred places, remembered terrains, and the invisible forces that people have long associated with the natural environment. The artist transforms these themes into visual experiences that feel both personal and universal.
Instead of presenting viewers with clear narratives or predetermined meanings, “SAVDAG–IIII.II” creates space for interpretation. The exhibition encourages audiences to engage through observation, intuition, and emotional response, allowing each person to develop an individual relationship with the works. In this way, the artworks become points of encounter where memory, imagination, and lived experience intersect.
As contemporary artists around the world increasingly explore questions of identity, ecology, and humanity’s connection to place, B.Bat-Erdene’s latest project contributes to these conversations through a distinctly personal lens. His works invite viewers to pause and reflect on the often-overlooked relationships between people and the landscapes they inhabit, suggesting that traces of memory and meaning remain embedded within every environment.
Visitors will have the opportunity to experience the exhibition from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday, while the gallery will be closed on Mondays. Through its thoughtful exploration of nature, memory, and existence, “SAVDAG–IIII.II” offers an immersive artistic experience that resonates far beyond the gallery walls.
