Passengers using public buses will soon experience a more streamlined payment process, as the current two-device system is set to be replaced with a single, unified payment device starting May 2.
According to S.Gerelt-Od, Head of the Business Cooperation Department at Ulaanbaatar Smart Card LLC, the upgrade aims to make fare payment quicker and more convenient for users. Under the new system, passengers will only need to tap their card once upon boarding, eliminating the need to validate again when exiting the bus.
The newly introduced UBcard device will support multiple payment methods. It will be capable of reading Umoney cards, bank cards, QR codes, and payments via the UBcard mobile application, offering greater flexibility for passengers. In practical terms, commuters will simply tap their card or device on the purple-colored UBcard reader when boarding the bus and proceed with their journey. The previous requirement to tap out when getting off will no longer apply, reducing delays and simplifying the overall experience.
Additionally, the system upgrade introduces new functionality through the UBcard app, allowing users to top up their Umoney cards directly via the application, further enhancing convenience and accessibility. Overall, the transition to a single-device system is expected to improve efficiency in public transport services while making daily commuting easier for residents.
