70th session of UN Commission on status of women held

A delegation from Mongolia, led by T.Aubakir, Minister of Family, Labor and Social Protection, is attending the 70th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) of the United Nations Economic and Social Council in New York from March 9 to 19.

This year’s session focuses on “Ensuring and strengthening access to justice for all women and girls, including by promoting inclusive and equitable legal systems, eliminating discriminatory laws, policies and practices, and addressing structural barriers.” High-level representatives from over 180 UN Member States are participating in the discussions.

Minister T.Aubakir addressed the General Debate, highlighting Mongolia’s efforts to eliminate discriminatory laws, strengthen equitable legal systems, and ensure access to justice for all women and girls. He outlined Mongolia’s ongoing policy and legal reforms aimed at promoting gender equality and increasing women’s political, social, and economic participation. The Minister also emphasized Mongolia’s commitment to expanding international cooperation in these areas.

During the conference, Minister T.Aubakir participated in the Ministerial Roundtable on “Ensuring Gender Equality and Increasing the Participation of Older Women”. She held bilateral meetings with Mahinur Ozdemir Goktos, Minister of Family and Social Services of the Republic of Turkey, and Haoling Xu, UN Under-Secretary-General and Assistant Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme, to discuss Mongolia’s policies and explore future collaboration.

On March 12, Mongolia, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme and the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, organized a side event titled “Ensuring Rural Women’s Decision-Making in Environmental Governance.” The event brought together UN member states, UN agencies, and civil society representatives to discuss gender equality and women’s participation in climate change policies and initiatives.

The 70th session of the CSW will continue until March 19, providing a platform for member states to advance commitments to gender equality and women’s empowerment worldwide.
