City development initiatives discussed with Australian Ambassador

The Governor of the Capital and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Kh.Nyambaatar, met with Leo Zen, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Commonwealth of Australia to Mongolia, to discuss potential cooperation and ongoing city development initiatives.

Mayor Kh.Nyambaatar highlighted Australia as an important partner and major investor in the Asia-Pacific region. He outlined Ulaanbaatar’s ongoing efforts to tackle air pollution and traffic congestion, including switching to semi-coke fuel, which has reduced air pollution by approximately 30 percent, gradually connecting households to gas consumption, banning very old vehicles, and implementing mega infrastructure projects. He expressed interest in collaborating with Australia on engineering and technical skills development as well as future infrastructure projects.

Ambassador Zen praised the city’s leadership, noting that air pollution and traffic congestion are complex challenges for any country. He observed that Ulaanbaatar has undergone significant growth and development over the past two decades, with a rapidly expanding population. He emphasized Australia’s commitment to supporting the capital and expressed willingness to collaborate on future projects and initiatives aligned with the city’s priorities.
