Oath taking ceremony held for 16-year-olds

The annual Mongolian Citizenship Oath Ceremony took place on November 26, continuing a long-standing tradition held under the patronage of the Prime Minister. This year, nearly 63,140 young Mongolians are reaching the age of 16, and among them, 850 youths gathered at the State Palace to formally take their oath of citizenship.

Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar attended the ceremony, offering congratulations and words of encouragement. In his address, he reminded the young citizens of the day’s historical significance, “On this very day in 1924, Mongolia chose the path of freedom, independence, and justice. Our nation made a historic decision to shape its own destiny by proclaiming the Republic and adopting its First Constitution. You are the generation entrusted with carrying forward that legacy into the new century.”

He emphasized that citizenship represents far more than the simple receipt of an identification card. “Becoming a citizen of Mongolia means making a heartfelt pledge to honor the name ‘Mongol’. You are the new hope of our country,” he said.

This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the ceremony, which is conducted nationwide for youths turning 16 and receiving their national identification cards. The program aims to cultivate patriotism, integrity, and pride in Mongolia’s history and cultural heritage among the nation’s youth.
