Art has, for thousands of years, given meaning, value, and a unique delicacy of feeling to human life. It has continuously charged our minds and hearts with a mysterious, invisible energy of boundless power. From the sacred moment of birth in a mother’s womb to one’s final breath, we may never fully comprehend the essence of life itself, yet every fleeting sensation we experience can be deeply felt and eternally preserved. The clearest testimony to this truth is art—the embodiment of emotion, perception, and consciousness transformed into tangible form.
Through lines, shapes, colors, and composition, art translates emotions that words cannot express, allowing every viewer to encounter hidden parts of their inner world and awaken new, unexplored sensations. Among the many branches of visual art, sculpture stands out as one of the most profound and evocative.
In her solo exhibition “Celestial Maidens”, Sculptor J.Purevsuren infuses her works with the subtle emotions and sensations that flow through the unending chain of time—the very moments nature, Earth, and the universe bestow upon humanity equally, with every breath we take. This sense of delicate continuity forms the living pulse of her exhibition.
When encountering “Celestial Maidens”, one is invited not only to see but also to feel the quiet resonance within the heart. True beauty and rare emotion do not shout into the mind, instead they whisper softly to the soul. Every work of art carries within it the deeply personal essence of its creator, and the more an artist pours their vision, perception, and emotional depth into their work, the more distinct and unrepeatable each creation becomes.
J.Purevsuren’s sculptures reflect her love for nature and the Earth, her introspective moments of solitude, and the sensations she draws from being present in the here and now. She weaves the beauty of the universe and celestial worlds together with the graceful, elegant, and powerful presence of the feminine spirit, transforming these into the living essence of the “Celestial Maidens”.
The exhibition features 13 freestanding sculptures and 15 reliefs that express both the inner and outer beauty of women; their gentleness intertwined with strength, their mystery and depth. Although the figures lack specific faces, each carries a distinct character, tone, and inner voice, reflecting the artist’s refined skill and sensitivity.
The dominant turquoise tones merge with cosmic hues, while golden patterns reminiscent of fingerprints, flowing water, or celestial orbits adorn the surfaces. These evoke the sense of transcending the boundaries of time, body, and consciousness, bridging ancient myth with modern voice. The swirling, ascending forms of the sculptures recall the eternal movement of the heavens while the gilded traces symbolize unseen energy, suggesting that humankind and the cosmos share the same rhythm, the same origin.
Cast in bronze, J.Purevsuren transforms the material into a contemporary language of the cosmos. The exhibition becomes, for her, a five-year meditation on transformation, feminine strength, and the eternal dance of existence; a living reminder that, like the stars, we too are made of light.
Travel holds a special place in the artist’s life, and the impressions, colors, and sounds of nature she encounters during her journeys are subtly infused into her creations, quietly affirming that humanity and nature are not separate. The works presented in this exhibition have been created over the past five years. Each sculpture was first cast in synthetic material, then in bronze, and mounted on bases of semi-precious stones such as chrysoprase, jade, smoky quartz, algae agate, and nephrite. This unique combination not only reinforces the exhibition’s concept but also brings a fresh, innovative aesthetic solution.
The bronze reliefs, depicting the cosmic daughters, are paired with natural materials like sheepskin and felt, which are elements deeply rooted in Mongolian nomadic life, harmonizing the soft and the solid. This choice reflects the Mongolian reverence for nature: the centuries-old tradition of cherishing and living in harmony with the natural world.
Although created in recent years, the initial ideas and imagery behind “Celestial Maidens” have dwelled within the artist for nearly two decades, gradually maturing in concept, form, and craftsmanship. J.Purevsuren first studied fashion design in 2003, yet for more than 20 years she has devoted herself entirely to sculpture, exhibiting widely both in Mongolia and abroad. With “Celestial Maidens”, her fourth solo exhibition, she continues to navigate the vast ocean of art aboard her own unique vessel.
The exhibition will be on view until November 30, at B Contemporary Art Gallery, located next to Studio B of the Union of Mongolian Artists in the 11th khoroolol of Sukhbaatar District, Ulaanbaatar City. The gallery welcomes visitors from Tuesday to Sunday between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m., remaining closed on Mondays.
