Emeelt Park to feature 24 MW thermal power plant

The Emeelt Eco-Industrial Park, to be built on a 539-hectare site in the 13th khoroo of Khan-Uul District, around 30 kilometers from the city center, will feature a major energy facility designed to meet the park’s growing industrial and residential needs, according to the Ulaanbaatar City Council. At the heart of the development will be a 24 MW thermal power plant that will provide electricity, thermal energy, industrial steam and hot water. The design and budget of the facility are scheduled for completion within this year, with construction beginning in 2026 and operations expected to commence within two years of groundbreaking.

The thermal power plant will be equipped with advanced technology to ensure reliable and efficient energy generation. It will feature two 110-130 t/h low-temperature rotary boilers with boiling-phase technology, two 12 MW PT-type steam turbogenerators, and an array of auxiliary equipment to support operations. Once operational, the plant will work in parallel with the central power system, providing stability and ensuring continuous service to the consumers of the Emeelt Eco-Industrial Park.

According to project specifications, the facility is designed to burn between 199,000 and 205,000 tons of coal annually. From this, it will produce approximately 156 million kilowatt-hours of electricity and 265,600 gigacalories of thermal energy each year. This energy output will be sufficient to cover the comprehensive needs of the park, including industrial enterprises, service providers and households located within its boundaries.

Beyond its technical capacity, the thermal power plant is expected to create significant local employment. A total of 185 people will be hired to manage and operate the facility, providing stable jobs and contributing to the economic development of the surrounding area. Project developers have also emphasized the use of environmentally friendly technologies. The plant will be built to achieve complete fuel combustion, minimize air pollution, and meet modern environmental standards. In addition, it will be controlled by a modern automatic system, ensuring efficiency, safety, and reduced human error in operations.

The Emeelt Eco-Industrial Park is being designed as a comprehensive and sustainable industrial hub. Alongside the power plant, the park will include integrated heating and hot water systems, clean water supply, electricity distribution, and communication networks. These utilities will be placed in a tunnel structure that allows for streamlined management, maintenance and future expansion of infrastructure.
