Brushstrokes of lifetime shown at Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum

In honor of Mongolia’s annual Senior Citizens’ Day on October 1, the Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum has launched a special exhibition titled “Ancient Beauty”, celebrating the legacy and contributions of the nation’s veteran artists. Officially opened on the afternoon of September 25, this heartfelt showcase will remain on view until October 5 in the museum’s central exhibition hall.

The exhibition brings together a diverse and deeply personal collection of works by senior artists who have dedicated their lives to Mongolian art. Artworks were received on September 22 and 23, and the resulting curation offers an intimate glimpse into the creative journeys of individuals who have helped shape the country’s visual culture over the past several decades.

The exhibition’s title, Ancient Beauty or Ertnii Saikhan, reflects both the timeless quality of the artworks and the enduring spirit of the artists behind them. Visitors are invited to explore a rich variety of pieces—ranging from traditional Mongolian painting techniques to more experimental and contemporary forms—each one imbued with the personal histories, aesthetic philosophies, and emotional depth that only come with decades of experience. Many of the participating artists are foundational members of Mongolia’s modern art movement, and their influence continues to be felt in both academic and cultural circles today.

Speaking on behalf of the Union of Mongolian Artists, one organizer emphasized that the goal of the exhibition is not only to honor past achievements but to remind younger generations of the foundations upon which their own creativity is built.

The Fine Arts Zanabazar Museum, long regarded as one of the country’s most significant cultural institutions, continues to play a central role in promoting Mongolian art and heritage. With “Ancient Beauty”, the museum invites the public to reflect on the artistic legacy of the elders whose vision and commitment have elevated Mongolia’s creative identity, both at home and abroad.

Those wishing to attend the exhibition may do so during regular museum hours. This exhibition is not just a celebration of art, but a moving tribute to the people who have kept its spirit alive across generations.
