Expanded cooperation on urban development explored with South Korea

The Governor of the Capital City and Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Kh.Nyambaatar met with a high-level delegation from the Republic of Korea led by Park Wan-su, Governor of South Gyeongsang Province, to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation, particularly in infrastructure and urban development.

During the meeting, Mayor Kh.Nyambaatar presented an overview of 24 major development projects planned for Ulaanbaatar City aimed at tackling air pollution, traffic congestion, and improving the overall quality of life for residents. He highlighted key infrastructure initiatives including the Tuul and Toirog expressways, new tram and metro lines, and the implementation of large-capacity multi-modal public transport systems, for which international tenders are being gradually launched.

Additionally, the mayor outlined ongoing efforts to reduce air pollution through the construction of residential complexes for approximately 20,000 households in Selbe, Bayankhoshuu, and the Khaniin Material area. These developments are part of the city’s “20-minute city” initiative, designed to bring essential services closer to residents and reduce the need for long commutes.

Acknowledging the long-standing and strategic partnership between Mongolia and South Korea, Mayor Kh.Nyambaatar expressed confidence in potential collaboration with Gyeongsang Province, one of Korea’s most industrially advanced regions, particularly in industrial and urban development projects.

In response, Governor Park Wan-su reaffirmed his province’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and expressed enthusiasm for future cooperation. He voiced his full support for joint initiatives and praised the opportunity to work closely with Ulaanbaatar City on transformative urban projects.
