The Unified Traffic Surveillance Center officially opened in Ulaanbaatar City, providing full coverage of 176 intersections, exits, and roadways across the capital city. The center operates on an artificial intelligence-based system that detects traffic violations in real-time and allows for centralized data processing and analysis.
The new center, along with its nine district sub-centers, operates under the jurisdiction of the Mayor’s Office of Ulaanbaatar. It enables citywide management of traffic surveillance, allowing for streamlined monitoring and control from a single command point. This integration will enhance the capital city’s ability to prevent road accidents and criminal activities, as well as swiftly identify violations and address them in real-time.
Currently, the smart cameras are in trial mode, alerting citizens of any detected violations through text messages. However, starting January 1, 2026, the system will implement formal penalties for detected infractions, automatically issuing fines based on AI-driven analysis.
The cameras are designed to monitor and identify a range of violations, including running red lights, traffic congestion at intersections, blocking pedestrian crossings, and exceeding speed limits. This state-of-the-art system is expected to significantly improve public safety, alleviate traffic congestion, and reduce accidents, creating a safer environment for the people of Ulaanbaatar. The launch of this surveillance system also marks a key step towards developing smart city technology and furthering urban infrastructure in the capital.
