To protect public safety during the summer months, mobile and boat patrols have been officially deployed along Ulaanbaatar’s main rivers. This initiative is part of the Capital Governor’s 2025 directive focused on preventive measures against water-related accidents, aimed at reducing the risk of drownings and improving emergency preparedness near popular recreational waterways.
Jointly organized by the National Emergency Management Agency, the Police Department of Ulaanbaatar, and district-level Child and Family Development Departments, the patrols will operate until September 21, covering nine key routes along the Tuul, Terelj, and Kherlen Rivers. In a significant expansion of this year’s program, the Selbe River has also been added to the list of monitored areas for the first time.
Equipped with boats and mobile response units, patrol teams will not only monitor crowded river zones but also ensure rapid response to emergencies, provide on-site safety advice, and distribute educational materials to raise public awareness—particularly among families and children.
Now in its 15th consecutive year, the river patrol program reflects the city’s long-term commitment to preventing drownings and promoting safe recreational environments for residents and visitors alike.
