International Day honors global commitment on peacekeeping

In accordance with United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/57/129 adopted in 2003, May 29 is observed globally each year as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers. In Mongolia, this day has been commemorated since 2012 under Government Resolution No. 140.

Since 2012, personnel from Mongolia’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have served alongside international peacekeepers around the world, contributing to global peace and security. To date, approximately 300 Mongolian emergency officers have joined the ranks of the UN’s “Blue Helmets”, including six women.

As of this year, 19 NEMA personnel are actively serving within the Mongolian Armed Forces’ 14th Infantry Battalion deployed to the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS).

Mongolia first began its peacekeeping contributions in 2002 by dispatching two military observers to the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Since then, members of the country’s armed forces and law enforcement agencies have consistently participated in international peace support operations, reinforcing their commitment to global peace, security, and humanitarian efforts.

This year’s observance on May 29 served as a moment to recognize the dedication, bravery, and sacrifice of Mongolia’s peacekeepers and their continued contribution to international peacekeeping missions.
