As the risk of forest and steppe fires escalates with the onset of dry weather, Ulaanbaatar City has launched a coordinated city-wide effort to protect its surrounding green zones. A joint mobile patrol initiative is now actively underway, bringing together key government agencies to monitor and prevent potential wildfire outbreaks.

The operation involves 24 personnel from four major institutions: the Ulaanbaatar Emergency Management Agency, the Police Department, the Environmental Department, and the Bogd Khaan Strictly Protected Area Administration. These teams are conducting daily patrols from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., covering the most vulnerable areas in the Bayanzurkh, Sukhbaatar, Songinokhairkhan, Khan-Uul, and Chingeltei districts. Five vehicles have been dispatched to ensure comprehensive coverage across the city’s green zones.

Authorities have emphasized that this initiative is not only about surveillance but also about raising public awareness and promoting responsible behavior in ecologically sensitive zones. Patrol teams are on the lookout for open flames, illegal activities, and negligence that could spark fires, especially in areas where vegetation is dry and fire-prone. Individuals found violating safety protocols may face legal consequences under existing environmental protection laws.

This heightened vigilance comes at a time when climate change, urban expansion, and human activity are placing increasing pressure on the environment and its safety.
