Nationwide tree-planting day celebrated

For the past 15 years, Mongolians have gathered together every second Saturday of May and October to participate in a nationwide tree-planting initiative, marking a significant environmental effort aimed at combating climate change. This year’s spring tree-planting day is set for May 10. To commemorate this day, the National Park has planned a wide-reaching event under the slogan “Have You Planted a Tree?” The event is expected to attract participation from individuals, families, and organizations across the country, reinforcing the growing national commitment to environmental sustainability.

Since the launch of the “Billion Trees” national movement, tree planting has evolved from a single-day event into an ongoing initiative that spans multiple days each year, expanding its reach and impact. This year, one of the key locations, the National Park, is set to plant approximately 4,500 trees. In preparation, the park has already received pre-orders for nearly 3,000 trees and shrubs from over 20 businesses and nearly 50 individuals eager to contribute to the cause.

For those interested in participating, the park has made it easy to get involved. Families, colleagues, and groups of friends can book their spots by calling the park at 7555-4646 or emailing info@ub.park.gov.mn to secure their tree-planting activities. This initiative has become a powerful community effort, with the simple act of planting a tree turning into a symbol of environmental responsibility and collective action.

In addition to the activities at the National Park, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has revealed an ambitious new project as part of the “Billion Trees” movement. They are launching the “Five Trees in Every Household” program across 108 khoroos in Ulaanbaatar City, encouraging citizens to plant trees in their own backyards as part of a larger push to green the city. With these ongoing efforts, Mongolia continues to lead by example, striving to reduce the impact of climate change and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.
