New center established in Bayangol District

In line with the Ministry of Health’s ongoing decentralization policy aimed at enhancing the accessibility and quality of specialized medical services at the local level, a new Cancer Center has officially opened its doors at the Bayangol District Health Center in Ulaanbaatar City. This marks a major step forward in bringing comprehensive cancer care closer to residents.

The center is designed to provide an integrated stream of oncology services—from prevention and early detection to surgery, systemic treatment, and palliative care. Patients will now have access to a full spectrum of support including psychotherapy, dietary counseling, rehabilitation, and physical therapy, all in one location. This holistic approach ensures a smoother and more efficient treatment journey for individuals battling cancer.

A key highlight of the new facility is the introduction of Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC), a specialized and advanced method of chemotherapy used to treat certain types of abdominal cancers. The implementation of HIPEC at the district level reflects the commitment to decentralizing not just basic health services, but also complex and high-impact treatments.

Bayangol District Health Center has been steadily building its capacity in cancer care, beginning with outpatient oncology services in 2008. A dedicated unit for chemotherapy and palliative treatment with ten inpatient beds was added in 2018. With the opening of the Cancer Center, these services have now been expanded and unified under one roof, offering a seamless and modern experience for patients.
