Major cleanup underway along Tuul River

The spring edition of the major Tuul River cleanup campaign, initiated and organized by the non-governmental organization “Bid Tuul Goliinkhon” is underway.

As part of a global movement to protect and restore rivers and water bodies, numerous organizations and institutions in Mongolia have joined forces to clean up the banks of the Tuul River. Participants include students and staff from the National Defense University, the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, Ikh Zasag International University, the Mongolian National University of Education, the Mongolian University of Life Sciences, the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, the International University of Ulaanbaatar, the University of the Humanities, the Citi University of Mongolia, as well as employees from Power Plants No. 3 and No. 4, the General Department of Social Insurance, and the General Department of Taxation.

“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all participating organizations and volunteers for their dedicated efforts to clean the Tuul River for the sake of future generations,” the organizers said in a statement.

Special thanks were also extended to the Tuul River Basin Authority and its team, who co-organized and provided key support for the initiative. Appreciation was further expressed to basin authorities across Mongolia, who continue to organize major clean-up operations in their respective regions, helping protect the environment and contributing significantly to the restoration of vital water resources such as rivers, lakes, and springs.

In addition to the cleanup, the Central Water Control Laboratory collected water samples from sections of the Tuul River between the Bayanzurkh Bridge and the Songino Bridge. The samples were taken from the flowing water near each bridge, and the results of the water quality analysis will be made public in the near future according to the Water Agency.
