Stray animals sheltered for safety

In an ongoing initiative to ensure a safe and healthy living environment for Ulaanbaatar City’s residents, the local authorities are conducting a campaign from April 24 to 28 to capture and relocate stray dogs, cats, and livestock to shelters for care and management.

N.Otgonbayar, Director of the Administration and Financial Management Division of the Ulaanbaatar City Public Services, shared details about the operation. He explained that in 2025, a significant number of complaints regarding stray animals were received by the Ulaanbaatar City Governor’s Office and the City Administration. As a result, a directive was issued to capture, shelter, vaccinate, and neuter stray animals to control their population.

Over 1,000 personnel, including emergency responders, police officers, and relevant officials from Ulaanbaatar’s municipal services, are working together on this initiative. The operation began in the 20th khoroo of Songinokhairkhan District and is progressing toward the Tuul River’s floodplains.

Ya.Chuluunkhuu, the Governor of the 20th khoroo, emphasized the importance of this campaign, stating that the area, which includes residential, industrial, and mixed-use zones, has a high population of stray animals, particularly dogs and cats. He noted that stray animals pose a risk to public safety, especially for young children traveling to school. Therefore, capturing and managing these animals is crucial in ensuring a safe and secure environment for the community.
