The Baganuur Southeast Regional Electricity Distribution Network has upgraded power poles in the Dadal and Khurkh areas of Khentii Province to improve electrical safety and prevent birds from being electrocuted or injured.
The project involved upgrading 10 kV and 15 kV overhead power line poles by fully equipping them with insulating covers and protective devices. As a result, the risk of birds, particularly raptors and rare species, being electrocuted in the area has been reduced by 95 percent.
As part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives, the company regularly involves its engineers and technical staff in meetings and discussions on bird-friendly linear infrastructure. These engagements provide opportunities to exchange ideas and explore practical solutions to reduce the risks posed by power lines to bird populations.
The Mongolian Bird Conservation Center, which actively works to reduce bird mortality, praised the company’s exemplary initiative and called on other electricity transmission and distribution companies to take similar measures to improve the safety of overhead power lines and protect birdlife.
