President of Montenegro Jakov Milatovic will pay a state visit to Mongolia from September 8 to 10 at the invitation of President U.Khurelsukh, marking the first state-level visit by a Montenegrin president to Mongolia. The visit comes as Mongolia and Montenegro mark the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations, established on November 30, 2006.
During the visit, Presidents U.Khurelsukh and Milatovic are expected to hold official talks focused on expanding bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, the economy, education, culture, science, tourism, climate change and environmental protection. The two sides are also expected to sign a Joint Declaration and several bilateral documents designed to deepen cooperation in the social and economic sectors, as well as education, culture and science. Following their talks, the two presidents will brief the media on the outcomes of the visit.
Ahead of the state visit, Mongolia’s Ambassador-designate to Montenegro D.Munkhtur presented his credentials to President Milatovic on September 3, conveying President U.Khurelsukh’s greetings. During the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities to broaden bilateral ties in political, economic, scientific, cultural and humanitarian fields.
President Milatovic highlighted the 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations and expressed satisfaction with the expansion of cooperation between the two countries in recent years. The upcoming visit builds on a meeting between Presidents U.Khurelsukh and Milatovic on the sidelines of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The two leaders discussed arranging high-level visits and expanding cooperation in politics, the economy, tourism, education and culture. They also expressed interest in strengthening collaboration within the international community on climate change, combating desertification and other issues of shared concern.
Despite the relatively recent establishment of diplomatic relations, historical references to Montenegro in Mongolia date back more than a century. In 1913, the third issue of Shine Toli Khemekh Bichig, regarded as Mongolia’s first newspaper, published an introduction to Montenegro covering its territory, population, system of government and distinctive characteristics. President Milatović’s visit is therefore expected to provide fresh momentum to Mongolia-Montenegro relations as the two countries enter their third decade of diplomatic ties.
