135 athletes participate in World Nomad Games in Kyrgyzstan

The 6th World Nomad Games will be held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from August 31 to September 6, bringing together thousands of athletes from around the world to compete in traditional sports and showcase the cultural heritage of nomadic peoples. Held under the broad themes of sports, culture and arts, and science, the event is expected to attract more than 4,000 athletes from 112 countries, who will compete in 43 sports.

Mongolia sends a delegation of 135 athletes to compete in 26 sports at this year’s games. State Elephant (The rank given to national Naadam wrestlers who obtains 7 wins) D.Anar has been selected as the captain of the Mongolian team and will also represent the country in Mongolian traditional wrestling.

The games will feature 16 wrestling disciplines under the combat sports category, including Mongolian traditional wrestling. Each participating country is allowed to enter one athlete in the Mongolian wrestling competition.

Other wrestling disciplines on the program include sumo and ssirum, a traditional Korean form of wrestling. The inclusion of these disciplines highlights the games’ emphasis on preserving and promoting traditional sports associated with nomadic and Asian cultures.

Beyond wrestling, participants will compete in 10 horse racing and equestrian events, four strength sports, traditional archery and horseback archery. Competitions in traditional national games and hunting will also be held as part of the Games’ diverse program.

For Mongolia, the event is an opportunity not only to compete internationally but also to introduce and promote the country’s traditional sports and cultural heritage. Mongolian wrestling, horse racing and archery are closely connected to the country’s nomadic traditions and remain an important part of its national identity.
