Athletes continue medal-winning run at world championships

Mongolian athletes are continuing to make their mark at several world championships being held across different countries, collecting medals in powerlifting, judo, mixed martial arts and masters athletics. At the Sub-Junior and Junior World Powerlifting 2026 in Sun City, South Africa, Mongolia’s team, led by Honoured Coach D.Battulga, is competing against more than 420 athletes from 60 countries across five continents. The championship will conclude on August 29.

In the sub-junior women’s 76kg category, M.Bilguunzaya won gold medals in all three disciplines. She lifted 190kg in the squat, 82.5kg in the bench press and 162.5kg in the deadlift to win the overall title, becoming the first Mongolian female athlete to claim a world championship title in the overall standings. In the junior 74kg category, B.Azjargal won a gold medal in the squat and bronze medals in the bench press and deadlift, finishing third overall.

Meanwhile, Mongolian athletes also obtained their first medal at the Guayaquil World Championships Cadets Individuals 2026. J.Enkhtur of Guru Dojo Club won a bronze medal in the boys’ 60kg category, becoming the first Mongolian athlete to reach the podium at the tournament.

At the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) Youth World Championships in the United Arab Emirates, M.Munkhsuvd competed in the senior 56.7kg category. She defeated components from Russia and England and won the bronze medal. Mongolian athletes are also competing at the World Masters Athletics Championships in Daegu, South Korea. Honoured Athlete 85-year-old T.Tserendolgor, won a bronze medal in the javelin throw, while Ts.Radnaa, aged over 90, won the first place in the 100-metre race.
