E.Galbadrakh wins Democratic Youth Union Presidency

E.Galbadrakh was elected President of the Democratic Youth Union (DYU), an organization affiliated with the Democratic Party (DP), securing 57 percent of the vote in the election held on August 15. Three candidates contested the election: Member of Parliament S.Tsenguun, D.Bilguudei, and E.Galbadrakh, former CEO of the state-owned Mon-Atom.

The election attracted considerable public and political attention, with the main contest widely viewed as being between S.Tsenguun and E.Galbadrakh. Both candidates were subject to political speculation and competing narratives during the campaign.

S.Tsenguun faced allegations in political and media circles that she was backed by the Mongolian People’s Party as a political proxy and was connected to Parliament Speaker S.Byambatsogt through family ties. Similar claims circulated regarding E.Galbadrakh, who was portrayed by some as being closely associated with former Member of Parliament Ts.Anandbazar and as another candidate backed by the MPP. The President of the Democratic Youth Union is elected for a four-year term.
