The Ulaanbaatar City Administration is taking steps to update the boundaries of forest reserves in the capital’s green belt and ensure compliance with relevant urban standards, with a focus on promoting environmentally friendly development and protecting wildlife habitats.

The measures are being implemented by a working group established under the City Governor’s A/277 order dated February 27, 2026. As part of the initiative, the Capital City Urban Development and City Standards Agency plans to organize an introductory training session on UCS 0304B:2025 General requirements for wildlife-friendly fences in Ulaanbaatar’s summer camp areas and state special protected areas. The standard was approved under Resolution No. 25/05 of the Citizens’ Representative Khural of Ulaanbaatar in 2025.

The training will target individuals, businesses and organizations engaged in construction, as well as the manufacture and installation of fences and barriers. It aims to raise awareness of the requirements of the city standard and highlight the importance of complying with them.

More than 50 representatives from relevant businesses and organizations are expected to attend. Participants will receive information and practical recommendations on fence and barrier designs that do not obstruct the movement and migration of wild animals, while also being environmentally friendly and compliant with the city’s standards.

The initiative is expected to contribute to maintaining ecological balance in Ulaanbaatar’s green belt and specially protected areas, safeguarding wildlife habitats and promoting nature-friendly solutions in urban development. By introducing wildlife-conscious fencing standards, the city aims to address one of the less visible impacts of urban expansion while creating a safer environment for wildlife moving through areas increasingly surrounded by human infrastructure.
