The Ulaanbaatar City Administration announced that the “Seoul Street 30•30” project has been launched on Seoul Street, introducing a new car-free initiative aimed at creating a more pedestrian-friendly public space in the capital city.

As part of the project, vehicle access on Seoul Street will be temporarily restricted every weekend from 6:00 p.m. on Fridays until 4:00 a.m. on Mondays. The initiative is designed to provide residents with a safer and more comfortable environment for walking while offering opportunities to spend their leisure time through a variety of sports, cultural, and educational activities.

The project will feature a regular program of events catering to people of all ages. Planned activities include sports competitions, recreational exercise programs, educational sessions focused on intellectual development and personal growth, public discussions, cultural events promoting Mongolia’s heritage and traditions, art exhibitions, music performances, and an open stage and microphone platform encouraging young people’s creative participation. By reducing vehicle traffic on weekends, Seoul Street is expected to become a vibrant area where people can gather, participate in activities, and enjoy a more relaxed urban environment.

Additionally, the street was named Seoul Street in 1996, when Mongolia and the Republic of Korea renamed the former Children’s 100 Street as a symbol of the friendly relations and cooperation established between the two countries. Since then, it has become one of Ulaanbaatar’s most recognizable streets and a central location for cultural events, businesses, and public gatherings. The new project seeks to further strengthen its role as a social and cultural hub in the city.
