Parliament elects N.Myagmar as Chairman of GEC

Parliament has appointed N.Myagmar as Chairman of the General Election Commission (GEC) following a secret ballot during the plenary session of its regular spring sitting on July 3. A total of 103 lawmakers participated in the vote, with 75 members supporting his appointment. The nomination was submitted by Parliament's Standing Committee on State Structure.

N.Myagmar brings more than two decades of experience in legal affairs, public administration, and government service. He has held senior positions in the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, the Cabinet Secretariat, the Secretariat of Parliament, and Mongolia's diplomatic service.

He earned a bachelor's degree in law from the National University of Mongolia's School of Law in 1998, followed by a master's degree from the same institution in 1999. In 2005, he completed a Master of Laws (LL.M.) at the American University Washington College of Law in the United States.

N.Myagmar began his career as a lecturer at the National University of Mongolia's School of Law, where he taught from 1999 to 2006. He later joined the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs, serving in several senior positions, including head of its Public Administration and Management Department and director of the National Legal Institute.

His career has also included serving as administrative manager of the Mongolia Ship Registry, consul at Mongolia's Consulate General in San Francisco, and manager of an Asian Development Bank-funded project.

In recent years, N.Myagmar has led the Legal Affairs Departments of both the Cabinet Secretariat and the Secretariat of the Parliament. From 2024 to 2026, he served as State Secretary of the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs before being appointed Deputy Chief of the Cabinet Secretariat in May 2026. As Chairman of the GEC, N.Myagmar will oversee Mongolia's independent election management body responsible for administering national and local elections and ensuring the integrity of the country's electoral process.
