Prime Minister N.Uchral met with former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to discuss climate action, green development, and opportunities to deepen cooperation through the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
Ban Ki-moon, who serves as the eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, President of the Assembly and Chair of the Council of the GGGI, and is a recipient of Mongolia's Order of Chinggis Khaan, was congratulated by the PM on the successful organization of the fourth Trans-Altai Sustainability Dialogue 2026 international forum.
During the meeting, the premier outlined the Mongolian government's ongoing economic reforms aimed at improving the business climate, encouraging investment, and strengthening the country's economic competitiveness. He also highlighted Mongolia's preparations to host the 17th Conference of the Parties to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD COP17) this August, describing the event as an important milestone in the country's environmental agenda.
The two sides discussed the activities of the Global Green Growth Institute in Mongolia and explored ways to expand future cooperation. They emphasized that, following the recent adoption of Mongolia's first comprehensive Law on Climate Change, establishing a stronger legal framework for collaboration with the GGGI would be strategically important for implementing the legislation. Such cooperation is expected to support Mongolia's transition to a green economy while improving access to international climate finance.
Prime Minister N.Uchral also thanked Ban Ki-moon for his leadership during his tenure as UN Secretary-General, particularly his contributions to advancing global peace and security, addressing climate change, promoting human development and gender equality, and advocating for the interests of countries facing special development challenges, including landlocked developing nations.
The premier noted that Mongolia and the Republic of Korea continue to deepen their partnership based on shared democratic values and growing mutual trust. He also welcomed the upcoming state visit of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung, who will travel to Mongolia at the invitation of President U.Khurelsukh as the guest of honor for this year's National Naadam Festival.
