Nearly 15,000 safety violations identified

Authorities have identified nearly 15,000 safety violations during a nationwide campaign aimed at creating safer environments for children and preventing accidents that could put young lives at risk.

The campaign was launched following a tragic accident in Zaamar soum of Tuv Province, where a three-year-old child fell into a mining drill hole and lost their life shortly before International Children’s Day. The accident drew renewed attention to the dangers children face in both urban and rural areas, highlighting the urgent need to address hazardous environments across the country. In response, the national movement was launched to strengthen child safety measures and encourage greater public and institutional responsibility for protecting children.

As part of the initiative, authorities conducted inspections of 7,844 sites and facilities between May 30 and June 15 to identify and eliminate potential hazards. According to the Authority of Child and Family Development Protection, inspectors detected a total of 14,977 violations during the review period. Of these, 11,999 issues have already been addressed or brought into compliance, while efforts are continuing to resolve the remaining violations. The inspections covered a wide range of locations where children may be exposed to risks, including public spaces, construction sites, recreational areas, and other facilities.

Public participation also played an important role in the campaign. During the same period, citizens submitted 502 suggestions and requests through the government’s 11-11 service center and the “E-Kids” section of the E-Mongolia platform. More than half of these submissions concerned child safety and hazardous environments.

As a result of the reports received, authorities eliminated risks at 156 locations and carried out repair and maintenance work at 67 sites to improve safety conditions for children and local communities. In addition to addressing immediate safety concerns, the government is also investing in child-friendly recreational infrastructure. Officials announced that work is underway to establish international-standard 5x5 basketball courts in all 21 provinces and nine districts of the capital city, providing children and young people with safer and more accessible spaces for sports and physical activity.
