Spring livestock birthing season continues across Mongolia, with more than 65 percent of the country’s breeding livestock having given birth as of last week, according to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry.
Nationwide, 14.7 million breeding animals, which is equivalent to 65.6 percent of the expected 22.4 million livestock scheduled to give birth this season, have successfully delivered offspring so far. Officials reported that the nationwide survival rate of newborn livestock currently stands at an encouraging 98.8 percent.
By region, livestock birthing rates currently stand at 69.9 percent in the western region, 65.3 percent in the eastern region, 62.5 percent in the central region, and 65 percent in the Khangai region, with herders continuing round-the-clock efforts to care for newborn animals during the demanding spring season.
The spring birthing period remains one of the most critical seasons for Mongolia’s livestock sector, as herders closely monitor weather conditions, pasture availability, and animal health to ensure the successful growth and survival of young livestock that form the foundation of the country’s agricultural economy.
