First political consultation meeting held with Montenegro

The first political consultation meeting between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro was successfully held, marking an important step in strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

The meeting was co-chaired by G.Battungalag, Director of the Department for Europe and Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia, and Marija Marija Stjepcevic, Acting Director of the Department for Bilateral Relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Montenegro.

During the discussions, both sides reviewed the current state of relations and cooperation, and explored opportunities for expanding future collaboration. Key topics included increasing trade and economic ties, promoting tourism cooperation, and developing partnerships in science, culture, and sports. The two sides also emphasized the importance of encouraging direct engagement between private sector entities and proposed organizing a joint business forum to support economic connectivity.

In connection with the upcoming 20th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Montenegro, the parties exchanged views on planning high-level visits and preparing key cooperation agreements. They also discussed issuing commemorative postage stamps to mark the milestone anniversary within the year.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation within the framework of the United Nations and other international organizations. The Mongolian side also extended an invitation for Montenegro to participate in the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification.

The meeting further included mutual congratulations, with Mongolia acknowledging Montenegro’s 20th anniversary of restored independence and welcoming the European Union’s decision to open formal accession negotiations with Montenegro.
