Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Kh.Gankhuyag received the Resident Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Evariste Kouassi-Comlan, to discuss collaboration on regional development programs and disaster risk reduction initiatives.
During the meeting, both parties exchanged views on ongoing and planned programs aimed at enhancing regional development and reducing the impact of disasters caused by climate change and natural hazards. It was agreed that relevant proposals will be included in UNICEF’s 2026 plan to support Mongolia’s development priorities.
Deputy Prime Minister Kh.Gankhuyag expressed appreciation for UNICEF’s continued support in implementing regional development policies, strengthening disaster preparedness, and enhancing the capacity of emergency workers. He emphasized that the Fund will play a key role in providing financing for the Western Region Target Program in 2026.
UNICEF Resident Representative Evariste Kouassi-Comlan highlighted that children and adolescents are among the most vulnerable groups during disasters and noted that the Child Disaster Risk Index is being calculated at the provincial level. He also confirmed UNICEF’s commitment to continue providing relief goods, logistics support, underwater drones and equipment for snow and dzud response, as well as exploring cooperation in cross-border forest fire prevention, earthquake preparedness exercises, and capacity-building for officials, according to the Deputy Prime Minister’s Press Office.
