The National Emergency Management Agency has confirmed that the forest fire which broke out on May 8 in Norovlin soum of Khentii Province, was fully contained and extinguished as of 8:00 a.m. on May 13.
The operation to suppress the wildfire brought together an extensive and coordinated response involving 236 personnel and 29 vehicles from across eastern Mongolia. Emergency management teams from Khentii, Dornod, and Sukhbaatar provinces, as well as the Emergency Department of Baganuur District in Ulaanbaatar City, worked alongside local professional units from Bayan-Uul, Batnorov, Dadal, Kherlen, and Norovlin soums. They were joined by dedicated volunteer brigades from the “Khan-Uul” and “Bayangol” groups, as well as conservation specialists from the Onon-Balj National Protected Area.
The wildfire scorched an estimated 7,300 hectares of land, including forested and steppe areas. While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, local authorities and environmental experts are now assessing the ecological damage and recovery needs. The successful containment of the blaze highlights the critical importance of rapid inter-agency cooperation and community involvement in responding to natural disasters.
