Minister of Education P.Naranbayar has distributed Chromebooks to students at School No. 29 in Ulaanbaatar City, which serves children from all nine districts of the capital city and 21 provinces. The school specializes in supporting students with hearing and speech impairments. As part of his visit, the minister also toured School No. 116, where he reviewed school operations and dormitory conditions.
Under Law on Education reform, special needs schools are being redefined as resource centers. These schools not only provide education to children with disabilities but also support mainstream schools by offering methodological assistance and inclusive education services.
Through a grant funded by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE), the Ministry of Education is preparing to launch a pilot project in August titled “Supporting Learning Through Inclusive Opportunities”. In collaboration with the National Institute for Educational Research, the project will test the implementation of assistive technologies tailored specifically for students with hearing impairments.
As part of this effort, a total of 340 Chromebooks have already been purchased under the GPE project and distributed to nine schools in the capital city, 22 schools in rural areas, and five universities. These devices are intended for students with hearing loss and the teachers who work with them, with the goal of enhancing inclusive learning environments through technology. With the customized settings applied to the Chromebooks, students with hearing impairments will now be able to attend any mainstream school in their district, ensuring equal access to education through technological support.
In addition to the Chromebooks, significant investments have also been made in vocational and practical education infrastructure. Of the 27 core types of kitchen equipment procured under the project, 11 types, along with 38 out of 41 types of auxiliary tools and utensils were delivered to School No. 29. Meanwhile, School No. 116 received 19 types of the main kitchen equipment and 31 types of supporting tools, totaling 74.8 million MNT in value.
